The Bukuku Health center IV store keeper and in charge maternity ward are on spot after being caught with the government drugs and other hospital equipment.
The suspects, have been identified as Rebecca Balinja, the maternity ward in charge, and the storekeeper only identified as Grace.
The Incident
Yesterday evening, group of leaders from North division led by area mayor Joseph Mashuhuko,Stella Marunga the deputy mayor, ward councilor for Kazingo Sheila Gumiziriza, together with police from Karago stormed the facility after getting information from the whistle blower that some of the medics in the facility are stealing government medicine.
One Paul Businge, the security guard at the facility who was also the first person to be arrested, narrated how the medicine and other hospital equipment were stolen.
He revealed that on Feb 18, 2023, he saw a boda boda rider loading some things that were packed in bucket and some jerrycans near Rebecca’s residence. He got suspicious he got suspicious and rushed their to check what the boda rider was loading, only to discover some boxes of water saline ,five boxes of gloves, five jerrycans and two hospital buckets.
After thorough inquiries, he was told that the stolen things belonged to Grace who had kept them at Rebecca’s residence of which he impounded them.

In his response to the matter, the hospital in charge Dr. Ruhweza, regretted the act stating that he had done all it takes to stop some medics from stealing the hospital drugs and other equipment, but some of the medics have continued to do so.
What Leaders say
Joseph Mashuhuko, who led the meeting, proposed that the suspects should be summoned to police and make statements where Rebecca was arrested taken to Karago police post.
However, the deputy Mayor Stella Marunga, stated that some whistle blowers had earlier before told them that the very medics have been found doing that only that there has been no evidence.
She has urged other medics to stand on their medical ethics and mind about other people’s lives.
