Fort Portal: Attendance Issues Threaten City’s Academic Year Smooth Start
Clare

Approximately three weeks into the start of the academic year 2024, Fort Portal City reportedly experienced varying attendance rates amongst its student body.

While around 70% of enrolled learners managed to attend classes during the initial week, the remaining 30% arrived subsequently due to repeated prompts from local educational officials.
According to Patrick Ategeka, the senior City education officer for Fort Portal, a reasonable portion of the 30% continued to lag behind even after multiple reminders.
Despite the challenges regarding attendance, Ategeka confirmed that all schools within Fort Portal had successfully begun the new term, and nearly every learner found themselves immersed in a favorable learning atmosphere.
Parents urged to continuously support their children in schools
This being the first term, Ategeka urged teachers and students alike to intensify their classroom endeavors, aiming to better the previous academic performance.
Additionally, he called upon parents to unwaveringly support their children’s education and to promptly send those who remained absent back to school before falling too far behind the syllabus.
The issue of low attendance was observed nationwide, often linked to increased tuition costs amidst a struggling economic climate.
