The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert K. Muhiirwa Akiiki, has announced a suspension on all fundraisings within the Diocese of Fort Portal until the completion of the Virika Cathedral roofing project.
This decision was announced during a fundraising event at St. Jude Katooke Catholic Church in Bunyangabu district, which raised a total of over 85 million shillings.
Speaking at the event, Bishop Muhiirwa who exempted the fundraising of St Maria Goreti Girls due on July 6 this year, emphasized that the remaining balance of approximately 1 billion 60 million shillings required for the project is still too high compared to the construction timeline.
He stated that the contractor for the Virika Cathedral roof renovation has specified that they will hand over the complete work by November 24 this year, and it is crucial that the required funds are cleared to zero balance before then.
