The Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert K. Muhiirwa Akiiki, has announced a suspension on all fundraisings within the Diocese of Fort Portal until the completion of the Virika Cathedral roofing project.

This decision was announced during a fundraising event at St. Jude Katooke Catholic Church in Bunyangabu district, which raised a total of over 85 million shillings.

Speaking at the event, Bishop Muhiirwa who exempted the fundraising of St Maria Goreti Girls due on July 6 this year, emphasized that the remaining balance of approximately 1 billion 60 million shillings required for the project is still too high compared to the construction timeline.

He stated that the contractor for the Virika Cathedral roof renovation has specified that they will hand over the complete work by November 24 this year, and it is crucial that the required funds are cleared to zero balance before then.

85 million collected at Kabaale Fundraising

The recent Kabaale fundraising event, which was attended by Hon. Minister Tom Butiime as the chief guest, yielded a significant amount of money.

The total collection was over 85 million shillings, comprising 47 million from previous fundraising activities, 23 million collected in cash during the event, and 14 million in pledges.

Notable contributors included Hon. Minister Tom Butiime, who donated 5 million shillings, Hon. Peace Mutuuzo, the Bunyangabu woman MP who contributed 3 million shs, Miss Sarah Kabarokore,  James Mugarama Ategeka the Bunyangabu LCV and the family of late Rwakatooke, who donated land for the St. Jude Kabaale church and also contributed to the cause.
