The Catholic church has embarked on prioritizing peaceful families as away of combating recently increased family break-ups and domestic Violence, through CANA fraternity, a movement that brings together married couples.
In Fort Portal Diocese, At least 360 couples are for a one week CANA fraternity conference that commenced on Monday January 8, to Saturday January 14.
Notably, 110 couples are at St.Leos Kyegobe, while the other 250 couples are receiving training from Katosa Parish.
About the CANA couples
A one Aloysius Mugisa, a CANA leader at national level, revealed that CANA has helped to enrich and deepen the lives of thousands of couples, whether married or in a long-term relationship.
“Now in its 40th year, CANA is present in nearly 50 countries around the world addressing the different realities of couple and family life. Our programs have had to adapt to face the current domestic challenges and provide better ways of solving them. More than ever there is a need for couples to be able to take time to support and strengthen each other.” Noted Mugisa
CANA targeting youth
According to Aloysius and Betty Mugisa, the CANA leaders and trainers at national level Uganda, CANA fraternal life nurtures men and women to take up responsibilities in their respective families especially in the current individualistic world.
Betty Mugisa, observes that one of the reasons the whole concept of marriage is currently abused and misunderstood, is because couples are not prepared enough to face the reality in marriage.
She encourages the singles to tap into vast opportunities in CANA training, as a way of preparing themselves for better marriages.
“There’s no reason for not having generational peaceful marriages, CANA fraternity has started a program of equipping singles with relevant marriage knowledge to shape and prepare them for successful marriages. We value companionship right from the bible and we encourage Christ centered marriages. It is this that we must pass on to the youth if we are to impact their lives positively.” Said Betty
Aloysius Mugisa also husband to Betty Mugisa, observes that if only Parish priests publicized the existence of trained CANA couples, they would help other struggling couples in formation of peaceful families.
He noted that there is lack of mobilization in areas where they would wish to expand thew CANA services.
