The Fort Portal city council meeting today was canceled due to a lack of quorum, prompting the council speaker, Albert Ahebwa , to postpone it until further notice.
Ahebwa, expressed disappointment as only four members out of the council’s total attendance were present at the scheduled 9:00 AM session.
Despite his efforts to notify and remind councilors of the meeting, many failed to attend, some thing he said has continuously led to a delay in providing essential services to the community.
Speaker Ahebwa on Councilors
Following the abrupt adjournment by the speaker, a significant number of councilors arrived late and were surprised to find out that the meeting had already been adjourned.
Some councilors, who chose to remain anonymous, criticized the speaker for being insensitive and authoritarian, especially considering their financial struggles due to delayed remuneration, which affected their ability to arrive on time for the meeting.
Meanwhile, there are concerns among residents of Fort Portal regarding ongoing conflicts among technical staff, which have impeded progress and development in the area.
