Fort Portal City Residents Threaten to Demonstrate Over Poor Quality Street Lights

Kabooha

Fort-portal Tourism City residents have criticized authorities for installing poor quality street lights at the expense of taxpayers’ money which tantamounts to felony and lack of value for money.

The lights, which were recently erected along Lugard road, Kyebambe Road and Balya road are not working equivalent to the amount of funds accounted for them according to residents.

Residents dissatisfied with the Dim light

Haruna Bosco, a concerned resident, says that the lights in question should be removed with immediate effect or else they stage a peaceful demonstration.

He further asks city authorities to extend light to all roads connecting to the city, saying that it can be a way of reducing evil doings like robbery and accidents.

Rev. Willy Kintu Muhanga a former mayor of the Former Fort Portal Municipality, says that the current leadership should be held accountable.

The central division mayor Richard Muhumuza, says that concerns have been received in their office and will be worked upon.

The street lights, were installed under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development USIIMID project funded by the World Bank.
