It was a day of joy at Iborooga Parish as Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki of the Fort Portal Catholic Diocese ordained three deacons into priesthood and elevated three seminarians into the Diaconate.

The newly ordained

The newly ordained priests in the diocese are Rev. Fr. John Mary Byamukama from Kitagwenda Parish, Rev. Fr. Innocent Muhumuza from Kahunge Parish, and Rev. Fr. Bright Kerry Richard from Iborooga Parish, whereas the newly ordained Deacons include Dn. Niyonshaba Hillary from Kamwenge Parish, Dn. Patrick Tusiime from Kitumbi Parish and Dn. Patrick Tumwesigye from Nyakasura Parish.

During the Ordination Mass, Bishop Muhiirwa, in his homily, emphasized the promise of obedience, urging the new priests to not only obey their leaders but also remain faithful to their creator in their awaiting ministries. He also reminded them of their commitment to serve God with undivided minds through the promise of celibacy, following the example of Jesus Christ.

Bishop Muhiirwa acknowledged the potential challenges in their ministry and encouraged the new priests to trust in God, drawing inspiration from Joshua in the Bible, who trusted God in times of despair.

The Bishop also called on young Christians in Iborooga to be inspired by the ordination rites and to say yes to God’s call, noting that the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. He urged parents to nurture their children in Christianity and support them if they choose to pursue a vocation in the priesthood.

Ordination Candidates Lay Down in Prayer as a Sign of Total Surrender to God

Speaking briefly after the Mass, the parents of the newly ordained priests expressed their gratitude to the Catholic Church for supporting their sons’ desires to become priests and deacons. They promised to pray for them as they embark on their new ministries.

Representing the newly ordained, Fr. Bright Kerry Richard thanked the congregation for their tremendous support throughout their journey and expressed gratitude to the Church for nurturing them to the holy orders. They pledged to work wholeheartedly and in cooperation with senior priests and Christians for the glory of God.

In a notable gesture, the parishioners of Iborooga presented a Premio car to Fr. Bright Kerry Richard as a congratulatory gift and to support him in his ministry.

In there very first appointments, Fr John Mary Byamukama has been sent to Mihondo Parish (yet to be opened) as a Curate,Fr. Innocent Muhumuza to Kitumbi as Curate, and Fr. Bright Kerry to Kahunge as a Curate
