The Catholic diocese of Fort Portal, has yesterday observed belated Labour day, with holy Mass attended by members of Catholic Workers Association of the Very diocese.
Labour day, was observed world wide on May1, but the diocese decided to push forward the celebrations to yesterday May 14, following the tight programs of the diocese that equally required attention.
Stop being Workaholics – Priest advises Workers
While delivering homily to various Workers of different professions and fields converged at Virika Cathedral for Worker’s day Mass, Fr Vincent Agutamba the Chaplain for all workers in the diocese of Fort Portal, urged employers and employees to ensure peace and Fair treatment at their work places.
Fr Agutamba further warned Workers on working for long hours beyond humanity and notes that such an act can easily cause mental illness.

According to him, lack of peace at work is the route cause of bad working relations among individuals, who end up causing insecurities.
About the Association
Joseph Muhumuza the general Secretary of Catholic Workers Association Fort Portal diocese, noted that the movement is composed of all sorts of workers from all the parishes of the diocese.
These annually celebrate their day with Mass, and distributing the collected items to the needy as identified in different parishes.
The considered needy, always include aged, the students who lack scholastic materials and the sick as carefully identified by the Association members in their respective churches and communities.
” We know we always reach out to only a few of the needy, but we come back and mobilize our selves to solicit funds and cater for those that are not catered for on the workers day according to our lists.” Remarks Muhumuza
Hon Linda calls for rightful treatment of workers
Linda Irene Nyinabarongo, the MP Fort Portal city speaking as a chief guest on the function, called for observation and respect of human rights in different work places.
She further echoed Fr Agutamba’s comment on mistreatment of workers saying whoever is doing it should consider the fact that workers are humans who equally have rights to respect.

With the current unrest in the country, characterized by various killings at work places Hon. Linda said as the government they’ll continue legislating laws that protect humanity in all situations.
