The 3rd June preparations have kicked off in high gear in FortPortal Diocese today. This follows the choice of Mbarara ecclesiastical Province of Fort Portal dioceseto animate the 2022 martyr’s celebrations.
In the first meeting that has taken place at St Adolf Ongoing Formation center Mukabura, Bishop Robert Muhiirwa has noted with thanks the Spirit being portrayed by Diocesan people in making the day a success.
Bishop Muhiirwa however says that people should not only dwell on jubilations but also mind spirituality of the event by emulating the lives of Uganda Martyrs who worked with zeal, sacrifice and hope.
Given only 3months of preparations, the Bishop has appealed to the appointed members of selected committees to start work with immediate effect. He says that this will require total sacrifice, hard work and prayer.
In the same meeting, Attendees have been able to start off the fundraising with cash of 1,511,000 Shs, which the Bishop said was a good start that wasn’t even planned for.

The celebration, comes at a time when Fort Portal diocese is soliciting for 2bn to renovate it’s leaking roof. Christians have however have vowed to support both activities at ago saying all are vital.
A one Edward Friday a catechist at St Charles Lwanga Town church, says he is happy for Fort Portal Diocese to be chosen to lead the day when the economy is fully open. He says that Christians are willing to handle two tasks Martyrs day and cathedral’s Leaking roof successfully.
Godriva Kabaganzi a believer from Kitagwenda parish, is happy about the news of Fort Portal diocese animating Martyrs day and says that she’s ready to trek to Namugongo to witness her Diocese animate mass.
Sr Apollo Kyakuba, a Munyatereza from Kyabirikwa convent who is yet to celebrate 50 years of religious life, says she’s overjoyed to witness Fort Portal Diocese animate mass the second time the 1st time being in 1997.
She adds that she recalls a successful day with the late Msgr Kasaija’s well trained Choir and wishes the Diocese a more successful day than the previous one
Fort Portal Diocese last animated 3rd June celebrations in 1997 at Namugongo with Bishop Paul Lokiru Kalanda Ordinary of Fort-Portal(1991-2003) and is set again to lead with Bishop Robert Muhiirwa also the current ordinary of the diocese.
Due to devastating effects of COVID-19, The diocese only has 3 months to prepare for the day unlike normally when the selected diocese is given a full year to prepare for this event.
