The Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal is mourning the passing of Rev. Fr. Wilfred Mwesige Eribankya, who died at the age of 72 early this morning at Nsambya Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
Burial Tentative program
The Fort Portal Diocese Communications Office reports that the body of Rev. Fr. Wilfred Apuuli is currently at Rwibaale Mortuary. Tomorrow, it will be moved to Katoosa Parish for a requiem Mass at 10:00 AM. Following that, the body will proceed to Butiiti Parish for a wake, which will include another requiem Mass at 4:00 PM.
On Tuesday, November 5th, at 8:00 AM, the body will be taken to the Bishop’s house for the funeral Mass, scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
Biography
Born in 1952 in Kyamutaasa village, Nyantunga Katoosa Parish, Fr. Mwesige was ordained on June 13, 1981. His first appointment was at Butiiti Parish, where he served from 1981 to 1983. He went on to serve at Kahunge Parish from 1983 to 1988 and then at Mabira Parish from 1988 to 1994.
Fr. Mwesige furthered his studies at the AMECEA Pastoral Institute from 1995 to 1996 and served as the chaplain at Virika Hospital from 1997 to 1998 before joining the Uganda AIDS Commission. He continued his ministry at Wekomiire Parish from 2009 to 2016, and then at St. Charles Lwanga Town Parish from 2016 to 2017.
At the time of his death, Fr. Mwesige was serving in Butiiti Parish, despite his health challenges.
