Police in the Central Division Fort Portal city are investigating circumstances under which fire gutted kiosks, car garage and part of Tian bar in Kisenyi this afternoon, leaving property worth millions of money destroyed.
About the Fire
According to the Central Division police commander, Afande Acidri Savior ,they were called this Thursday afternoon by the central division mayor Muhumuza Richard that fire has guttered the area where they responded fast with the fire brigade team to stop it before it spreads to other areas.
He says that they have not yet established the source of fire thus still investigating.
However, according to the eye witnesses, the fire started in a wooden kiosk kind of a restaurant, where it started at high speed and managed to spread to parts of kiosks including the garage.
The eye witnesses, who also are mechanics, narrated that when they saw the fire, they managed to save some of the cars and motorcycles that were in the garage, despite the efforts to save others, one car and a motorcycle have been burnt to ashes. One part of Tian bar also caught a blaze but fortunately the fire brigade managed to stop it before it spread to the whole place.
In the same area, there was a church Known as Holy spirit born again church that has also been demolished by the people in the process of saving people’s businesses in a bid to pave way for the rescuers since the area is enclosed.
Some of the church property have also been destroyed including microphones, bibles, chairs, music systems thus worshipers are calling for help from the government.
However, the Garage owner whose names have not been identified, condemned some of the customers who bring their cars for repair and fail to pick them after they are repaired.
Leaders speak Out
Richard Muhumuza the central division mayor, commended police for their quick response who responded first before the fire spread through the whole place destroying people’s businesses.
He has attributed the recurring fires in kisenyi due to congestion of people with wooden kiosks.
