Fort Portal: Four Arrested for Terrorizing People & Stealing Their Property

Police in the North division Fort Portal city have in custody four serial thieves that have been terrorizing people through stealing their property.

 

The arrest

According to the Community Liaison Officer [CLO] for North division Afande Holly Julius, the suspects were arrested last week during a joint operation by the division leadership and the local defense.

This was after receiving several complaints from the community, over escalating cases of theft where other suspects were also arrested and later released on bond after screening.

 

 

Believed to be the ring leader, Alex Businge, was the first suspect to be to arrested, followed by his  colleagues only identified as Mugisa, Jimmy and Alituha.

Reportedly, the four suspects  hail from  Karambi II,Kangama and Kibooro villages.

 

 

Afande Holly, noted that police have been hunting for Alex commonly known as Zanda, whose files had piled up at the police station.

According to him, after thorough screening, other suspects were  released but Alex and colleagues remained in custody pending to be taken to court.

 

 

Division Mayor tasks residents to continue Identifying wrongdoers

Joseph Mashuhuko, the division mayor, stated that Alex and colleagues have been sleeping in trenches, moving only at night and moving with a machete.

 

 

” As the division, we have started operations to reduce criminality in the area. We have started this from Karambi ward ” He noted

 

 

Mayor Mashuhuko, explained too that people have lost their domestic animals, house property and crops in the garden due to the increased theft.

 

He further encouraged the community and the area local council chairperson to always identify wrong doers from their area and alert the police together with his office, so that they can mount operations in their areas of residence.
