Two landlords in Fort Portal city, have delayed the launch of the 20.4 Billion USMID project, currently being undertaken in Rwengoma ward, central division Fort Portal city.
The contract
In June, Fort Portal City Council Contracted China Railway No 18, to embark on the rehabilitation of the three city roads of Millane 0.72 kilometers, Kabundaire Water supply 0.9 and Mugoma Kahungabunyonyi 0.66 kilometer roads all in central division Fort portal, to be worked upon under the second phase of the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development project.
According to Moses Otimong, the Fort Portal city clerk, the city council had already signed a contract with China Railway No 18, to embark on a 20.4 Billion shillings road construction project slated for 6 months.
However in spite of the “Global 21st Century Limited” subcontractors entering a third week with rehabilitation exercises under way, no launching has since taken course.
Mayor Asaba’s say
The Mayor Fort Portal city, His worship Asaba Edison Ruyonga, told our reporter in an interview that whereas the works are ongoing in some parts of the town, the project launch is yet to take course before the end of August.
Ruyonga, said that his office has been approached by two landlords with titled premises complaining that whereas the road is likely to affect their properties they had never been approached by the city council authority seeking their consent on the matter.
Ruyonga says the technical team erred adding that they could probably have approached the affected parties to ensure an agreed smooth operating environment
However, Ruyonga said his office and the office of the city clerk are doing everything possible to ensure the three grievances from the residents are duly attended to, to see the projects get launched officially.
One of the landlords who spoke to us on condition of anonymity, said whereas both the political and technical wing have been approaching individual persons through the ward to explain the ongoing works, he was not approached hence seeking redress from the office of the Fort Portal City Mayor
