The Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert K. Muhiirwa the bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese accompanied by clergy, religious men and women plus other dignitaries have on Friday presided over the official opening of the newly constructed modern chapel at St. Maria Goretti Girls Secondary School
The daylong colorful ceremony characterized with various entertainment and speeches started with holy sacrifice of mass celebrated by the bishop who led a procession towards the chapel and performed official inauguration and offered a special blessing
The ten year Project
The bishop thanked Rev. Sr. Paula Kunihiira a former head-teacher who currently serves as Vicaress or assistant mother general Banyatereza Sisters who initiated the idea of constructing a modern chapel in 2014 when the school was preparing to celebrate 50yrs of existence in 2017
In his preaching he said, the chapel should be respected and used only for prayers rather than defiling it like those heard in the gospel Jesus turning their tables because they had made the Lord’s temple a den of thieves. He thanked old girls, parents, chaplains, students and all people of good will for aiding the completion of God’s house
Twenty Confirmed
During mass twenty students received the sacrament of confirmation and were encouraged to be firm and utilize the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.
He said St. Maria Goretti had deep love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Maria Gorretti never accepted to give in to temptations and was stabbed to death.
Before her death she forgave her persecutor. He told the gathering to emulate Maria Goretti and strive for purity especially through prayer and minding about decent dressing especially the world of today. He urged Parents to teach their children the importance of self control.
