Vendors in the Mpanga Market in the Fort Portal Central Division, have expressed concerns about the accumulating piles of garbage that are posing a threat to their safety and daily operations.
In an interview with our reporter, the vendors and other business owners highlighted the distressing situation of the foul-smelling garbage, emphasizing that it has been more than two weeks since any collection efforts have taken place.
Some business proprietors informed Jubilee Radio that makeshift garbage sites have emerged close to their establishments, hindering customer access and affecting their overall business operations.
Daniel Musinguzi, a vendor at the Mpanga market, expressed bewilderment at the dispersion of garbage, questioning the rationale behind the central division privatizing garbage collection.
Richard Muhumuza, the Mayor the central division Fort Portal City, attributed the resurgence of garbage sites in town to individuals who continue to give waste to people with mental health issues, resulting into countinued scattering of refuse.
Nevertheless, Muhumuza assured that the city authority is prepared to impose fines on anyone found guilty of littering.
