The Fort Portal North division leadership together with the security, has halted all the surveying activities on the 128 protested acre land.
Last week, the North division leadership led by the mayor Joseph Mashuhuko and the Fort Portal city woman Mp Linda Irene, convened a meeting after about 10 families that raised fears of being evicted from late Sadul Mangalija’s mail land by his son.
Resident’s view
According to residents, two weeks back the Late Sadul’s son came with a group of police officers and surveyors came trying to survey their land without notice, an act that brought fears on them.
The residents stated that some of them were asked to buy where they had occupied of the land, but unfortunately they don’t have the money.
” A few squatters managed to pay the landlord so to be out of his land title and some did not manage” Noted a resident.
One of the victims, Mzee Barozi told us that he ha been an occupant of the same land f for the last 20 years but with time, he bought for himself 11 acres of land from late Sadul.
To his shock, two weeks ago he saw late Sadul’s son come with land surveyors trying to survey his land without his authorization.
He therefore asks the RPC, Mayor, and the area Mps to intervene and settle the matter.
Mzee Barozi on land
The meeting to resolve the matters scheduled yesterday, was however postponed to the following day for further hearing, after Sadul’s son, only identified as Ibrahim failed to turn up.
During the meeting today as attended by the DPC, CLO at the former Bukuku sub county, the area land board resolved to halt all the planned survey activities on the protested land until things are done in the right procedures.
The meeting also resolved that there should be a meeting between Mzee Barozi, police, division leadership and Sadul’s son after some of the squatters’ grievances were handled single handedly by Mzee Barozi.
Meanwhile, giving his defense, Ibrahim denied allegations of evicting people from their land but he only wanted to survey his land.
