Members of the opposition political parties in Fort-portal city have decried intimidations and continued harassment by security personnel ahead of the 2021 general elections.
Ajuna Joseph Daka an aspiring member of parliament Fort-portal Central division in the 2021 general elections has expressed discomfort saying that the police are not providing a fair ground for aspirants while soliciting for votes.
Ajuna who is the flag bearer for the opposition Forum for Democratic Change FDC has noted that on the day of his official nomination police officers trailed on his vehicle with an intention of arresting him even when he had committed no crime.
Speaking to our reporter he said opposition consistently try to comply with the law but the police continues to frustrate them even when they comply with regulations of holding public rallies by following the Standard Operating Procedures of controlling the spread of Covid-19.
Last week Ajuna hosted Dr. Kiiza Besigye at his home in Bukwali where they officially launched a campaign roadmap ahead of general elections. He says police deployed everywhere in Fort-portal with aim of arresting Besigye even when he committed no crime.
On Thursday this week the Electro Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama warned security agencies against frustrating political aspirants during campaigns
According to Byabakama police and sister agencies are not responsible for granting permission to political candidates on where, when and how to hold political campaigns but instead responsible for providing security for people campaining.
