The Fort Portal Catholic Diocese Youth Office, led by Rev. Fr. Paul Mugabyomu, has taken a proactive step in environmental conservation by distributing over 3000 indigenous tree seedlings to various parishes. The initiative, which began in 2021, aims to plant 5 million trees within the diocese over five years.
Speaking on the distribution, Rev. Fr. Joseph Amanyiire, the youth chaplain of Rwebisengo, emphasized the significance of planting trees in mitigating the impacts of weather changes, that have severely hit Ntoroko district in the previous days.
These trees, including fruit-bearing varieties, will not only contribute to environmental protection but also provide future sustenance for parishioners and students.
In the same move, Rev. Fr. Ronald Kawoya, parish priest of Kanyabachope, highlighted plans to plant trees both within and outside parish premises and distribute them to youth for planting in their homes. He stressed the importance of nurturing these trees for their future benefits, including medicinal and nutritional purposes.
Echoing these messages, Deus Aliganyira, the youth chaplain of Butunduzi parish, underscored the role of trees in bolstering environmental protection efforts within their community.
