In a bid to combat criminality in Fort Portal, the police have arrested more than 80 people during a two day night patrols that were carried out in the last weekend.
According to the Rwenzori west police spokesperson,Vincent Twesige, a total of 21 women were arrested, 27 men and 39 boda boda riders.
These were also arrested from dark spots of Kisenyi, kitembe, Rwegoma and other neighboring places.
About the patrol
Following the recent worrying scenarios in Fort Portal city characterized by daily murder of at least one person in night hours last week, the police resorted to having patrols to identify the origin but also curb the public panic ahead of festival season.
According to Twesige, during the recent operation, the police considered those that were found idle and boda boda riders who were staging in dark areas. Drinking places were as well checked since some of the troubles originate from such places in the night.
The Recent Killings
However, Afande Twesige refuted allegations on the recent killings in Fort Portal including the murder of the kagadi DHO Paul Rutabagisha whose body was dumped at GHADAFI Fort Portal main mosque, the mountain of the moon university student who was a mobile money agent, unknown man who body was dumped along St Charles Lwanga and the recent incident where a man was discovered alongside the road in Bukwali with serious injuries to rebel groups as it has been speculated by the public therefore the public should remain calm.
Twesige has further cautioned the community to remain vigilant as police does its work.
