Uganda police Force has set operating rules for washing bay operators in Fort-portal Tourism City.
Among the regulations include, Every Washing-Bay ought to have leadership, staff uniform, register for staff and workers are required to close business after clocking 7 O’clock in the evening.
Afande Patrick Muhenda the Kabarole district Police Community Liaisons Officer says that this arrangement followed a series of investigations which found out that some criminals are hiding in the car washing business.
We used our intelligence and realized that some criminals, especially thieves hide in these places during evening hours, pretending to be waiting for clients whereas not. They only wait for the right time and start terrorizing residents! Muhenda revealed.
In an interview with reports on Thursday he insisted that owners of these places risk being closed if the above rules are undermined.
He also told us that police have embarked on holding security meeting in every village of Fort-portal and Kabarole district aimed at sensitizing citizens about crime prevention but also tightening security in the area.
Village meetings will begin from Fort-portal city before stretching to areas of Kabarole district whereby cases of domestic violence, witchcraft and others that require mediation will be solved during these engagements.
The police however warned bar operators flouting implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are set by the government to prevent the spread of covid-19. He revealed that bars are operating illegally while other people disrespect curfew which start at 9pm.
