Public members have been tasked to desist from practices that pollute the environment, which in turn impacts human life.
The call, has been made by Wabinya Raja, a data scientist at AirQO during a one-day engagement meeting with stakeholders including the Tooro Kingdom community, and Fort Portal City authorities among others, to see the best way forward in mitigating the challenges of air pollution in the city.
Wabinya notes that according to air quality monitors in the city, they have discovered that Fort Portal is not badly off like other cities in terms of pollution but adds that it normally increases during work rush hours both in the morning and evening time.
He calls upon the public to improve the air quality by avoiding burning kaveera, and poor waste garbage disposal among others.
Gladys Natugonza, the environment officer of Fort Portal city notes that there is still pollution within the city because of human activities such as the destruction of wetlands, deforestation, and pollution of River Mpanga among others.
She says the most polluted areas include industrial sites, markets, composite sites, fumes from cars, etc.
Cue in Gladys on Pollution.
