Religious leaders sabotaging the government programmes of Covid-19 vaccination and National Oral Polio Vaccination campaigns risk being apprehended and prosecuted in courts law.
Festus Bandeeba, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner Fort Portal observes with concern that there are religious leaders instigating believers asking them to boycott the government programs like covid 19 vaccination and polio adding that last week one was netted for asking his flock not to go for covid vaccination.
Speaking during the district stakeholder’s advocacy meeting on National Oral Polio Vaccination at Kitumba district headquarters on Monday, Bandeeba warned that they will not tolerate sabotage of government. He called on all the stakeholders to mobilize the people and ensure all children below 5 are vaccinated against polio is the country is to attain a future health population that is productive.
Kabarole District chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga noted that Fort Portal city and Kabarole are affected by the porous borders that allow penetration of citizens from DR Congo hence the need for people to embrace the polio vaccination campaign for our children not to be victims of the polio virus.
He asked all the local leaders, religious, cultural leaders and the VHTs to take the responsibility of mobilizing the people to have all the children below 5 years are vaccinated.
According to the Ag District Health Officer Kabarole Brian Kisembo, the polio vaccination exercises kicks off this Friday and runs up to Sunday.
