Fort-portal city and Kabarole district on Thursday received first batch of 5450 doses of AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine from ministry of health.
Dr. Solomon Asiimwe the Fort-portal City Health Officer told media during a press conference that official launch of vaccination is slated for next week Monday 15th March 2021 beginning with essential service providers especially health workers.
In the second phase, the jabs will be used to vaccinate persons that are at high risk of exposure example teachers, Journalists, Security officers and persons above 50 years experiencing complicated illnesses like Diabetes, HIV/Aids, Pressure, and Cancer among others.
According to the City Resident Commissioner Rodgers Mbabazi they have tightened security to ensure the vaccine is not smuggled to neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo DRC. It follows reports that some health workers in the Fort-portal have in the past been selling TB, Rubella and polio vaccination drugs to Congo.
Mbabazi says security has been tightened at the Regional Referral Hospital Buhinga where the vaccine is being kept to ensure safety and whoever dares stealing the same will be apprehended.
