Religious leaders in the Catholic and Church of Uganda Fort portal have appealed to believers to take caution as they celebrate Valentine’s day also the day of love.
According to Rev Fr Alosious Tumwekwase the Fort-Portal diocesan communicator, The Catholic church ceased to recognize the day on her annual calendar due to many factors but adds that Christians are free and allowed to celebrate the day of love as long as they do not violate it.
Rev David Tumwesige from the diocese of Ruwenzori has told our reporter that the Anglican Church recognizes love but does not celebrate the day.
Rev Tumwesige adds that St Valentine cannot be underestimated because he is a symbol of Agape love, and therefore Christians are free to celebrate Agape love as long as they don’t misuse the day.
According to the holy Cross Family ministries that ensures stability, prayerful and united families, the day is taken as a blessing to married couples and a special function is always organized for them.
To them the day is used to teach a number of virtues in family leaders and also to strengthen the bond in prayer.
Unfortunately previous reports show that instead of celebrating love in Uganda, the day has always been misused by some people through killing others, over drinking, fighting over lovers, stealing and many other vices.
