The Rotary Club of Fort Portal experienced a joyous and lively evening yesterday as it marked its final fellowship of the year 2023 in a warm and welcoming home setting.
Held at the residence of Rotarian Bright Stephen Mugabo, the Past President of the Rotary Club of Fort Portal, in Nyabukara, the event went beyond being just a celebration embodying a dedication to environmental sustainability and community service.
Mr. Bob Kisembo Businge, serving as yesterday’s Master of Ceremonies, shared that this year-end gathering serves as an occasion for members to exchange meaningful gifts, assess their achievements throughout the year, and strategize for the upcoming year. He highlighted that they initiated the tradition of tree planting at Nyabukara as a means of contributing to environmental conservation.
The Secretary of the Rotary Club of Kabarole, Miss Norah Kabahenda, expressed how being part of the Club exposes them to diverse opportunities by bringing together individuals from various professions for the collective benefit of humanity.
Dr. Lauben Kyomukama, President of the Rotary Club of Fort Portal, expressed pride in the club’s longstanding collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) under the Mountain Division. This collaboration has focused on planting indigenous trees in Fort Portal and Kabarole district, contributing to the larger cause of environmental conservation.
“As we conclude the year, let us continue to nurture these trees to maturity. Special thanks to the members of the Red Cross who not only joined us but also allowed us to use their compounds for this noble cause. Congratulations to all of us for successfully completing another half year of impactful Rotary activities,” said Kyomukama.
In addition to emphasizing environmental stewardship, Kyomukama urged members to take care of their well-being during the festive season. He encouraged them to recruit more members, fulfill their Rotary International dues, contribute to making the environment greener, offer hope to those in need, and extend kindness to friends.
During the same event, Rotarian Edward Basaliza Flamboyant, the Chief Guest of the evening, emphasized the significance of home hospitality parties within the club. He highlighted their role in strengthening the bonds among club members and underscored Rotary’s impact as pivotal in the socioeconomic development of the region
