The Rotary club of Fort Portal together with the Indian community, has launched a blood donation campaign.
The campaign, aims at raising enough blood to sustain Fort Portal blood bank.
Bright Mugabo, President the Rotary club of Fort Portal, on Monday morning said that the exercise would be held on Wednesday at Addis stationary shop along Bundibugyo road.
Mugabo, explained that the exercise is in line with the World blood donor day, which takes place on 14 June each year.
The Club’s Fort Portal public relations officer, Wilson Asiimwe, said the Day was created for a number of activities including:
- Raising global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion
- Highlighting the critical contribution voluntarily,
- Unpaid blood donors making up to national health system.
Asiimwe, further noted that the exercise intends to support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations.
This he notes, will be through strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programs by reinforcing national and local campaign.
Asiimwe, said that Rotary Club of Fort Portal seeks over 300 units of blood, within a period of two months.
