Traffic and business activities came to a halt this morning as police and other security agencies initiated the investigations at the crime scene of last night’s robbery in Kisenyi, Fort Portal.
The Robbery
Yesterday evening at around 7 pm, Armed robbers broke into the Baguma and K Auto spare parts shop, running away with 20 million shillings.
In their investigations into the matter, authorities cordoned off access points along Bwamba Road, preventing people from crossing through the area as they conducted their investigation.
Several local businesses, particularly food vendors who operate from Kisenyi Bwamba Road, came to a standstill when crowds gathered around the scene. In the chaos, some youths were seen taking food items, including chapattis and samosas, from the vendors, calling it “Risiki” (dangerous fun).
Police speaks out
The robbery occurred around 7:00 PM yesterday, when two suspects entered the Baguma shop, which sells motorcycles and spare parts, and stole a significant sum of money.
According to Rwenzori West police spokesperson Vincent Twesige, one of the suspects was shot and killed by the angry mob after learning about the matter.
He explained that while one of the robbers was armed, the other, who was unarmed, was overtaken by the angry crowd and killed after the armed suspect attempted to confront them with a cocked gun but managed to flee.
This morning, the second suspect, who was identified by residents as Abdu Businge, was apprehended in Mubende District around 4:00 AM while attempting to escape.
SP Twesige confirmed that the second suspect was found with part of the stolen money and has been charged with aggravated robbery.
He is now in custody at Fort Portal Central Police Station.
Meanwhile, The body of the deceased whose identity remains unknown, has been taken to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
