At least 6 suspects have been arrested for allegedly raiding and terrorizing the residents of the North Division Fort Portal city.
The six, were arrested during the weekend in a joint operation by the North division leadership and police after receiving several complaints from the community about youths who have repeatedly terrorized their area by stealing their property and domestic animals.
According to Joseph Mashuhuko, the mayor of the North division who was also part of the operation,the six were arrested along with bags of marijuana.
These include; Kwezi, Isingoma, Rasta, Benezeri, Baguma, and Junior who are currently detained at the North division police
The genesis of the Incident
Last week ,Residents of Rwengoma-Rutangwa, and Fuuti Villages in the zone of Butebe ward of Nortrh Division Fort Portal tourism city, expressed fear and state of living under tension due to increasing shops and residential house attacks and burglaries.
The mayor Division North Joseph Mashuhuuko, resorted to meeting the residents of the area, together with the LC1 Ibrahim Nyakairu, Frank Bindeeba committee member, Afande Muhenda the CLO, GISO monday and Kafabusa among others, to come up with the clear way forward oh how to overcome the challenges
Addressing the traumatized residents who sat at Kaburara village in Butebe Ward, Mashuhuko urged residents to promptly report any suspected idle and vagrant strangers in their residential and shopping centers to the concerned security organs.
The very residents assembly, took place after seven shops in Butangwa and Fuuti Village trading centers were wantonly attacked two days before, and robbed money, different shop merchandise and food, during night time when owners were asleep.
Shocking enough to the residents, the thieves did not break any door, but used master keys to open the doors which is puzzling to the security organs.
Those whose property was stolen,include Gordon Kalule, Braham Nurungi, Jimmy and four more .Fuuti village shop owners.
According to Mashuhuuko, much as the suspects have been arrested, the operation is still ongoing up to when people report no more cases.
