Ugandans for Peace Project Launched to Ensure Peaceful 2026 Elections
Meanwhile, The Kabarole Research Center, in partnership with Creations Forum Africa and the Women International Peace Center, has launched the “Ugandans for Peace” project, aiming to ensure peaceful elections in 2026.
David Mugarra, Head of the Governance Department at KRC, stated that this four-year project, costing approximately 4 billion Uganda Shillings, will promote peace, diversity, and the transcendence of divisive identity politics within communities.
At the inception meeting held yesterday at New Fort View Hotel in Fort Portal, Mugarra mentioned that the program will identify, monitor, and report issues related to political violence. It will also ensure that political actors, including security agencies, commit to a non-violent electoral process and peace.
Project Manager Kihumuro Ainebyona emphasized that the project targets communities, youths, women, local and religious leaders, security personnel, and political aspirants. The initiative will include training in conflict resolution and community awareness campaigns to facilitate peaceful elections.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, City Deputy Mayor Mujungu Betty Pendo praised KRC for the project and urged them to train journalists to avoid irresponsible reporting that could incite conflict during the election process.
