Police in Fort Portal are investigating circumstances under which a suspected mad man killed his siblings and injured two in Rwengoma B2 cell, Rwengoma ward, and central division Fort Portal city.
The suspect has been identified as Brian Mutegeki 20, a peasant and a resident of the same area.
The Victims
According to the Rwenzori West police spokesperson, Vincent Twesige, yesterday night police received information from one Stephen Kateba, a night watchman also a resident of Rwengoma, two children died on spot and 3 others were critically injured after being hacked by their brother.
Twesige, adds that Kateba tipped them that the suspect who is on run, had hacked his siblings identified as Chris Kagaba 7, Mariam Nabukenya, a bar attendant and resident of Kisenyi cell, Central Division Fort Portal City, Catherine ages two, and daughter to Nabukenya Mariam, Komuhendo Brefin 17 , and Mutungi Kagaba 4 years.
Whereas the two Charles Kagaba and Mariam Nabukenya died on spot,komuhendo and Mutingi were rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
No sooner had Mutingi reached the hospital died than he died.
How the Scenario reportedly happened
Twesige, further narrated that It’s alleged that yesterday at about at around 10:00 PM, while Kateeba Stephen was on duty at Rwengoma B2 cell, he heard a woman screaming for help, reaching the scene, he spotted Brefin Komuhendo, in a pool of blood, but ably informed him that Brian had just cut her with her other siblings almost to death before taking off.
At the same time, many people also gathered to respond to the alarmt, their house being on the roadside.
People who had gathered at the scene, found 4 other children bleeding profusely from deep cut wounds.
They joined efforts and rushed the four people to Kabarole hospital and Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, leaving behind Kagaba Charles 7, who had already passed on from the scene scene.
At their arrival at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, Catherine 2 years also died and the body was put in the mortuary pending postmortem.
Having received the information from residents, the DPC Fort Portal CPS immediately mobilized a team including himself, the OC CID, SOCO and other officers who rushed to the scene at Rwengoma B2 cell.
At the scene, the crowd was managed by cordoning it off to control access.
The body of Kagaba Charles was found at the scene in a pool of blood with multiple deep cut wounds.
The police say there was no chance to interact with the surviving victims as they were all in critical condition.
However, police also added that unconfirmed information indicates that the suspect is a family member of the deceased and victims and that he has been mentally sick for about 02 years.
” The Suspect is still on the run and the killer weapon has not yet been recovered, efforts are under way to have him arrested.”
