Fort Portal: Tooro Kingdom MTN Masaza Bicycle Races Leave Residents Yearning for More
Businesses operating in Fort Portal city, have yesterday come to a standstill following the Tooro Kingdom MTN Masaza Bicycle Races in the area.
Observably, over 1000 spectators hit the streets to cheer up their preferred Candidate among the 98 Riders that were flagged off from Mogas kitumba, rode along Fort Portal – Kampala highway to through Njara , police barracks, Mpanga Market to City Center headed to bundibugyo road through Kisenyi to kicwamba kihondo market and then turned back to Fuelex.
Of the 98 Riders, 68 rode ordinary bicycles whereas 30 were sports bikers.

Winners commend the Masaza race
Speaking to us, the overall Winners are appreciative to Tooro Kingdom for organizing Masaza Races, and MTN for sponsoring the growth of their talents.
Stephen Ayebare, A Boda rider hailing from Gweri, in Fort Portal city doubling as the winner for yesterday’s Ordinary bicycle racers, Said this year’s races have been more competitive compared to the previous ones, which calls for more training.
” This time round the races have been so tight.The first time, participants were reluctant and didn’t take the activity seriously. MTN’s token has continuously inspired most of us to engage in this sport, a reason why almost 100 of us have participated.” Said Ayebare.
Ayebare, who also bagged a total of about 3m in last year’s races at different levels, revealed that he has been riding someone’s motorcycle for survival, but will top up the money given to him from MTN to his savings so that he can buy his own motorcycle.
However, the Sports bikes winner, Seemu David, attributed the success to adequate training through their sports team, which was empowered by the Kingdom.
“We are glad that we are actually able to earn from our talents. I appeal to the youth out there to utilize their free time for pay, for instance they could join any training team that will help them realize their sports talents instead of wasting time in things that are not constructive.
We are grateful to the Kingom in partnership with MTN for empowering the sports in the Tourism City” Remarked Seemu.
59 year Old Joins Bicycle Races
Rose Mary Kabahenda, the only lady who managed to participate in the competitions, revealed riding as her passion which she got from Kenya.
She tasked other women to consider riding for physical fitness.
Much as she failed to make it to the top 5 from ordinary bikers, Kabahenda attracted public sympathy who solicited about 1500
Micheal Wandera, the Tooro Kingdom Minister of Sports thanked Fort Portal city population for turning up in big numbers and supporting the Kingdom.
