Residents of Nyamiryango,Kimbugu and Mandako wards have expressed concern over shoddy work and illegalities on a 100M Shillings Nyamiryango Kimbugu Mandako and kitaka ,Kinyantuha road construction by UNRA.
The incident
According the angry residents who were speaking to their leaders during the meeting at Kimbugu village Mandako ward North division yesterday,
last year the Uganda National Roads Authority – UNRA, was awarded a contract of construction of the three roads, but to their shock, the so far work on grounds, is so disappointing.
Changed bill
The residents, state that the contractors changed the initial bill of quintiles where by the Nyamiryano ,Mandako, kimbugu roads were supposed to be 7.2 kilometers and reduced it to 5.9, kitaka ,Kinyantuhawas supposed to be 4.2 kilometers ,they instead reduced it to 2.9.
The residents also say, that UNRA , had promised to put sport graveling, improve drainage among others, which were all not worked on.
Residents further stress that the contractors actually put maram in areas where they did not grade, an act they think is shoddy
They are however asking the minister of state for primary health care who doubles as their area Mp Margret Muhanga Mugisa, who is said to have lobbied the roads together with the Mayor to write to UNRA so that they can come on ground and correct the messes.
Leaders to meet up with UNRA team
Meanwhile the meeting resolved that all the works be halted until the matter is sorted and that a delegation of 14 people led by the division engineer and the mayor be selected to meet on Monday with UNRA officials to resolve the issue.
However, the North division mayor, Joseph Mashuhuko condemned the acts of UNRA and demanded accountability on the usage of money by the contractors.
Representing the minister, Rugumayo Francis, her political assistant asked the mayor to write back to the minister explaining what is on ground since she is the one who lobbied for the road.
He has further condemned some politicians in the city for early politics who he said could be part of the masses on the contested of the roads
Meanwhile our reporter tried to get a comment from PRO UNRA but it was in vain.
