The Rwenzori Katebwa Civilian war veteran chairperson John Kinuge is on spot over alleged soliciting money from widows in North division Fort Portal city.
According to widows who reported to the mayor North division Joseph Mashuhuko during a meeting that took place in Kimbugo village Mandako ward, last year Kinuge came to them soliciting 20,000shs from each of them promising to give them money for widows from the government in return
The Widows speak out
According to a one Regina Bagambaki, a widow and a resident of the same area, Kinuge told them that the 20,000shs is meant for registration and that the government is going to bring for them money.
Fedres Nyamaizi, also a widow, stated that her 20,000shs was taken but since last year, they have not seen any response from Kinuge or even government giving a hint on the promised money.
Widows want leader’s intervention
They are however asking the Fort Portal north division mayor, Joseph Mashuhuko to intervene in the matter because they need their money back.
Mashuhuko to investigate the matter
However, while responding to the matter, Mashuhuko promised to summon Kinuge in his office to get the clear version of the story.
Mashuhuko added that if it is found true that Kinuge took the old women’s money, the case will be taken to police for legal actions.
Kinuge refutes the said allegations
However,Kinuge has denied allegations requesting the victims to produce evidence.
Kinuge has explained that for him as the chairperson of RKCWA each member pays 20,000shs as membership fee annually and it goes with a receipt.
Kinuge has also explained that a few years ago, the government brought a PCA program where every parish was supposed to get 30Mshs and the requirement was the members to pay 20,000shs for registration.
He further explained that people might have paid the money to the then officers who were registering people and have never come back.
Kinuge revealed that he also paid the same money predicting that maybe, the old widows might be the victims too.
Further investigations are ongoing, as North division leaders into the matter.
