Traders operating from Kabundaire market in Fort Portal City have expressed fears over their security in the facility, following a Wednesday standoff between police and a one trader that caused injuries.
The territorial Police in Fort Portal City, at CPS Central Wednesday morning registered a case of shooting at Kabundere market in Fort Portal City.
Incidence
It’s alleged that at about 1230hrs, officers received a disturbance call from the Mayor, GISO and Chairman Kabundaire market that a one Patrick Kwikiriza, a vendor in the market, was cutting people in the market with a panga.
According to the Rwenzori West Police spokesperson, ASP Vincent Twesige, officers responded. Upon seeing them, the suspect confronted policemen and cut one No. 65266 PC Mwebesa Gordon on the hand. Two bullets were released immediately and a one Junior Edward aged 27 was hit by a stray bullet on the stomach.
Twesige said by press time, the victim was admitted at Buhinga hospital receiving treatment while the suspect Kwikiriza Patrick was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Traders worried of the security
Traders, say that their security in the market is at stake yet leaders are watching without any efforts.
They say that the shooting incident was uncalled for since the suspect had his personal administrative issues which market leadership failed to address but chose to call police which incited violence
