The youths living with HIV/Aids in Fort-portal city and Kabarole district have decried the escalating stigma and discrimination they face while accessing services.
According to the youths the government itself has continuously promoted discrimination and stigma on people living with HIV/Aids instead of condemning the behavior.
Editor Kasangaki, one of the youths living with HIV/Aids says that the government has over the years denied them the chance to join the Police. UPDF, visa to seek employment from other countries among other opportunities.
Editor who encouraged fellow youths who are positive to declare their status also revealed the many of their colleagues have been chased from jobs after realizing that they are positive.
Alex Ruhunda the Fort-portal city Member of Parliament asks for everyone’s intervention in the fight against discrimination especially in schools, health centers, workplaces and communities where majority cases are reported.
Ruhunda was today Wednesday speaking as chief guest at the official opening of HIV/Aids Art clinic at Youths and Women Empowerment Foundation.
According to George William Akora the managing director YAWE foundation the Art clinic will be receiving ARVs for their patients directly from government which will save more than 300positive youths from congestion in hospitals.
He however requested government to consider providing them with medicine for other diseases like malaria, headache, and whooping cough among others that affect HIV positive patients.
