In a bid to promote Eco-Home Tourism in Fort Portal Tourism City and Kabarole District, over 150 local people have been trained on the establishment and management of Eco-home stays.

According to the Director of Universal Institute of Research and Innovations Prof. Moses Muhumuza, locals will be receiving tourists under Eco-Home Tourism and stay with them in their homes and thereafter the visitors will pay for the services.
Prof. Muhumuza, said that the objective of the training is to ensure all participants get equipped with necessary skills that are needed in the establishment and management of Eco-Home Tourism.
He asserted that the Eco-Home Tourism will help locals to make money, promote culture and environmental conservation.
According to Muhumuza, the institute has developed a platform called Universal Eco-homes where a person can upload their home that will later be displayed elsewhere in a globe.
Speaking to the participants during a-one-day training workshop held at the Universal Institute of Research and Innovations in Karambi Fort Portal, Muhumuza revealed their main aim as to empower locals to make money from the Eco-home tourism.

He told the participants that Eco-home stays has been successful in the districts like Kamwenge, Kasese and others, thus advising them to embrace the Eco-home tourism.
Participants pledge to utilise Eco-home
Andrew Kasemezaki, a resident of Kiiko town council who attended the training, pledged to apply the skills acquired to ensure he gets money from Eco-home tourism.
Faith Kasaija, another participant, resident of Karambi, North division Fort Portal Tourism City said that she has learned a lot from the training concerning about Eco-home tourism and promised to implement whatever she was taught.
Steven Birungi, the Sub-County Chief Karangura Sub-County who was also the participant says that cleanliness is the main factor in the promotion of Eco-home tourism. He noted that tourists need to stay in places that are very clean.
He therefore called upon locals to clean their homes and also have networking and teamwork, if they are to benefit from Eco-home tourism.
