A tragic road accident along the Fort Portal–Bundibugyo highway claimed the lives of two people on Wednesday afternoon, 3 December 2025.
According to the Rwenzori West Region police spokesperson Vincent Twesige, the crash occurred at around 2:30 pm at Ibonde 1, North Division, when a Toyota Hiace (registration UBB 294B) collided with a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration UFD 554B).
The Toyota Hiace, driven by Kapere Rogers, 32, a resident of Bundibugyo District, was travelling toward Fort Portal when he allegedly attempted to dodge a pothole in the middle of the road. In the process, he rammed into the oncoming motorcycle.
The Accident Victims
The motorcycle rider, Mwanguhya Robert, 29, a resident of canon Apollo, died instantly together with his passenger, Sowedi Milton, 40, from Bukuku in Kabarole District. Police has attributed the crash to careless driving.
The District Traffic Officer (DTO) of Kabarole and a team of investigators visited the scene, took photographs, and recorded statements from eyewitnesses. Traffic forms 48A and 48B were issued, and the driver of the Toyota Hiace was taken into police custody as investigations continue.
