Christians have turned up in large numbers to be marked with Ash on their foreheads today at Virika cathedral. These, have been requested to reflect on and evaluate themselves on different aspects so as to benefit from this season of lent
In his homily today to hundreds of congregants at Virika, Rev. Fr. Titus Winyi Abwooli has appealed to Christians to note the fact that they are humans that were created by God.
He says Christians should know that they are not of the world but rather pilgrims in this world. They therefore should do everything that pleases God whom they shall return to bearing in mind that they are spiritual beings.
Fr. Winyi added that it is important for believers to repent to God every time they sin. He notes that whenever Christians do wrong, that marks their way downwards that waylays them to the Kingdom Of God. They thus should try as much as they can to avoid sin by being honest, truthful loving and share their possessions with others. With this, He says they will be able to help others to see the love of God.
Validity of Lent
He has hinted on the effectiveness of the day being Ash Wednesday, saying that this symbolizes the aspect of mortality of life and we were made from dust and into dust we shall return. Christians should therefore detach themselves from the worldly pleasures, saying that they should pick a lesson from Covid-19 which put humanity at the same level despite the possessions.
Fr Winyi, has further requested people of God to use this lent period and be vigilant especially in this era of economic recovery where crimes are increasing day by day, by being good to each other, avoid cheating and stealing by focusing on better ways of doing business.
Meanwhile Ash Wednesday commemorates the day Jesus went to the desert to pray for the world and fasting for 40 Days.
