Parents, teachers, and students at Nyabubaare Primary School in Butunduuzi Sub-County, Kyenjojo District, are filled with hope for improved education following the official blessing and handover of four new classroom blocks by CARITAS Fort Portal, led by Bishop Robert Muhiirwa of the Fort Portal Catholic Diocese.
Julian Yagala from CARITAS Fort Portal explained that the project also included renovating existing classroom blocks, constructing four latrines, and providing access to clean water. She revealed that the initiative was funded by Manos Unidas in Spain through CARITAS Fort Portal.
Andrew Byamukama, Chairperson of the School Management Committee, praised the Fort Portal Catholic Diocese for enhancing the infrastructure at Nyabubaare Primary, highlighting the significant change from the previous conditions where students often studied under trees.
” We are grateful to Fort Portal Catholic Diocese for thinking of our school in a special way and improving infrastructure. We are however still challenged with low education levels and zeal to educate children among parents, we pray that through related programs the church leadership may continue impacting lives “Noted Byamukama.
Mr. Charles Asiimwe, the headteacher Nyabubaare P/S, expressed gratitude for Bishop Muhiirwa’s visit and the blessing of the school, noting the importance of CARITAS and Manos Unidas in the school’s physical looks.
He acknowledged the financial challenges faced by parents in supporting teachers but pledged to ensure the maintenance of the new buildings.
Local Council III Chairperson Butunduuzi, Mr. Alex Tumushabe, appreciated the ongoing support from the Catholic Church through CARITAS in enhancing educational programs in their area. He encouraged the community to prioritize tree planting to address environmental issues.
Staff urged to ensure proper maintenance of infrastructure
Miss Annet Balewa, representing the CARITAS Board of Governors, emphasized the need for proper maintenance of the school facilities by both management and students to avoid future requests for renovations. She also urged parents to take an active role in supporting their children’s education,not neglecting them for the government and encouraged teachers to instill Catholic values alongside academic excellence.

Bishop Muhiirwa Calls for Unity
Rt.Rev. Robert K Muhiirwa, commended Fr. Joseph Musana, Director of CARITAS, for presenting the project to Manos Unidas, the donor organization.
He urged the school management to strive for academic standards that match the improved infrastructure and called on parents to support teachers in their efforts, stressing the importance of unity among staff and promoting discipline in guiding students.
