Drama ensued yesterday as the highly anticipated rematch between Fort Portal Isaza and Mwenge South in the Tooro MTN Amasaza Tournament was abruptly abandoned at Buhinga Stadium due to disturbances from Mwenge South supporters. The match, intended to resolve the finalist spot fairly, was interrupted after a red card was issued to Mwenge South defender Okada Paul Emmanuel early in the game.
No comment from the Kingdom Ministry of Games and Sports on the incident yet, but Mwenge South has expressed concerns about the fairness of the red card decision, which exacerbated tensions and drew in security personnel.
The disrupted match was part of the final stages of the 2024 esteemed Tooro Kingdom MTN Amasaza tournament, with a second leg scheduled for Sunday at Mwenge South’s home ground. The recent victory of Burahya Isaza has heightened the stakes.
Fort Portal City fans have criticized the rematch, suggesting that Mwenge South fans were prepared to create chaos due to their failure to advance.
With the possibility of the Sunday game in doubt, the Kingdom is expected to provide an official update on how the tournament will proceed.
