The ordinary of Fort Portal diocese, Rt. Rev Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, has appealed to the young couples, to entrust their marriages to God.
This, he said this at
St. Charles Lwanga town parish, during Holy Mass of renewing marriage vows, between Mr. Barnabas Bishaka, and Mrs Olive Bishaka, who marked 50 years of holy marriage.
Bishop Muhiirwa who doubled as the main celebrant of the Bishaka’s golden jubilee Mass, congratulated the couple upon successfully completing Fifty years of holy marriage, and appealed to the rest of the congregants to borrow a leaf, and normalize thanking God for any single achievement in life, without waiting only for bigger achievements.
God the firm foundation of Marriage
According to his Lordship, the married should not neglect the recognition of God’s power in their vocation, regarding it as a call of faith. He thus called for patience, love and trust among couples, but most importantly persistence in both convenient and inconvenient circumstances.
He later requested the couple to continuously live a love full of prayer, love and kindness, and keep being exemplary to others in the field of marriage.
The Bishaka’s experience
Mr. Barnabas Bishaka, a golden Jubilant hailing from Kisoro doubling as a retired agricultural officer, revealed that God has been their pillar throughout, on top of faithfulness, forgiveness and love.
His simple appeal to the young couples, is basing on the same, to enjoy successful marriages. He as well thanked his wife Olive, for having stood by the vows confessed 50 years ago to date.
“My wife and I have lived in a marriage supported by prayer, a key reason we have celebrated the 50years and still counting. We have been kind and supportive to each other, but the youth must most importantly remain faithful to each other on top of praying” Remarked Bishaka.
Olive Bishaka, said that the Youth must never underestimate the power of prayer, testifying that it has helped the two to overcome challenges.
Youth Advised to Respect Elders
In the same Mass, Bishop Muhiirwa Akiiki, called upon the youth to respect the elderly, noting they are a source of wisdom and the Knowledge relevant to the life they are living.
He noted that the youth have a tendency of leaving out the elders in their decisions, saying they are of
dot.com era which the elders have no idea of.
According to him, this is a dangerous mentality since the youth need to be guided on culture, real life and the world by the elderly who have the experience.
His Lordship Muhiirwa, alluded to pope Francis’ recent appeal to the youth to respect the elderly with tender love and care.
Dear #GrandparentsandElderly, we are called to be artisans of the revolution of tenderness! Let us do so by growing in our knowledge and use of the most valuable instrument we have: prayer. Our confident prayer can do a great deal!

” It is a shock parents make sacrifices to provide the best for their children, who end up neglecting them in future after acquiring money” He remarked.
Fort Portal’s ordinary, further appealed to congregants to embrace thanks giving to God and their fellows who do good to them, alluding this to the healed leper in the Bible who went back to thank Jesus after healing out of the 10 healed.
Meanwhile, the Bishop noted that young ones must borrow a leaf from the elderly, if they want long lasting marriages by seeking advise, emulating their love, faith, kindness and faithfulness.
