Rt. Rev. Raphael p’Mony Wokorach has assumed the role of Metropolitan Archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese, succeeding Archbishop Emeritus John Baptist Odama, following an announcement by Luigi Bianco, the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda.
Archbishop Wokorach 63, formerly serving as Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese since March 2021, brings with him a wealth of experience from his tenure with the Comboni Missionaries.
Bishop Odama retires at 75
Archbishop Emeritus Odama, who has diligently served as the inaugural Archbishop of Gulu ecclesiastical province for the past 25 years since his installation in 1999, graciously thanked the clergy, religious sisters, and laity of the archdiocese for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.
In a gathering at St Joseph’s Cathedral in Gulu, he urged the faithful to extend the same level of support to Archbishop Wokorach as he assumes his new responsibilities.
In acknowledgment of his retirement upon reaching the canonical age limit of 75 years, Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Emeritus Odama as the Apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Gulu until the formal installation of Archbishop Wokorach.
The Apostolic Nunciature conveyed gratitude to Archbishop Emeritus Odama for his dedicated service spanning twenty-five years and conveyed congratulations to Archbishop Wokorach as he embarks on this new chapter of leadership within the Gulu Archdiocese.
