Fire gutted Fort Portal Human rights offices yesterday, and left documents with other office property destroyed.

According to an eye witness, the fire started yesterday at around 10:30 Pm inside the office building.

Notably,  some workers from Dutchess hotel Mugurusi Road,  were coming from work at around10:30Pm  when they saw flames inside the building.  For this reason, they were quick to notify neighbors to come to the building’s rescue, before the police could reach.

Francis Muhenda, one of the eye witnesses, says that when he was notified about the fire, he immediately came to rescue, alongside other members who immediately poured water on the fire.

He says before the police, they had started pouring water before the blaze could threateningly increase the destruction of  most property.

HR Manager

Harriet Kajobe, the regional manager Human rights Fort Portal offices, has described the fire as an unfortunate incident.

She revealed that some office files were destroyed, before  photocopying the documents contained in.

Cause

According to Kajobe,  the cause of the fire remains unestablished till Fort Portal police fire brigade releases the report.

Meanwhile,  she revealed too, that the offices will remain closed as the police conduct investigations into the incident.

Kajobe established that  they are yet to establish the documents that were destroyed

Observably,  the whole building was not destroyed due to quick response.
