Due to the increased cases of insecurity reported in Njara Ward Fort Portal City, now local leaders have held a security meeting and resolved on how to curb the indecent behaviors especially theft.
Residents worried of theft
Notably, in a village meeting held at Njara Smart butcher trading center, attended by city and division leaders, LC1s and residents, robbers [thieves], have taken advantage of lack of security to rob people’s property.
According to Suleiman Kagaba, the secretary for security Njara B cell, in a period of just two months several shops have been broke into, houses, plantations too.
Other reports, indicate that individuals have been robbed of their phones, handbags and other property on the way home from work stations.
The meeting
The meeting, sat the late Hussein Sebbi’s home chaired by RPC, henceforth resolved that all properties in homes and shops must have receipts if not they are in wrong hands.
Some of the outcomes from the meeting
- Mobile money operators should stop working before 7pm to avoid robbers.
- All cases committed in any place in the village must be reported to police.
- Bar operators should close earlier because they are hideouts of criminals.
- Buildings with electricity should put on security lights to minimize theft and insecurity.
- A ten men security committee be formed and trained by police.
- Noise pollution from night prayers and music concerts should minimize their sound.
- LC1 committee should make bylaws and people in the village should signed before implementation.
Other resolutions included punishing residents that dodge attending such meetings.
All the people in the villages must be registered by LC1 chairpersons and all tenants before joining Njara ward must present their NIN numbers on national Ids, letter from previous LC1 Chairman plus their mobile contact for easy identification and accessibility incase of any thing.
Lastly names of individuals that were voted as thieves in terrorizing the area are suspects and will be investigated by police before being arrested.
