The parish priest for Kitanga parish in Kabale district, Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda has expressed concern ahead of educational institutions reopening for candidates and finalists effective tomorrow, October 15, 2020, saying many parents and guardians are financially crippled.
In an exclusive interview in Mbarara today, the man of God advised government to declare it a dead year and jointly plan with different stakeholders including parents and guardians as there is need for government to bail out Ugandans especially the poor by paying for their children, providing some requirements in fighting COVID-19 like face masks, sanitizers, soap among others.
The ministry of education recently inspected schools around Uganda and some aren’t ready which prompted authorities to threaten that students whose schools don’t have requirements will be taken to schools where requirements are in place.
‘Government has started distributing masks today….where has it been…….. they’re making roads in D R Congo…,’ Gaetano added.
Gaetano said due to the challenges caused by COVID-19 lockdown, some children might fail to report to school besides the burden on teachers since some students haven’t been virtually studying via radios and TVs due to poverty.
