Christians in Hapuuyo Parish are encouraged to actively participate in church movements, such as the Cana, Catholic Men’s Association, and Catholic Women’s Association, to gain valuable family guidance for building strong Christian households.
The message was yesterday shared by Bishop Robert K. Muhiirwa during his visit to Hapuuyo Parish in the Kyaka North Fort Portal Diocese, where he commissioned three catechists to minister the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
He was addressing concerns raised by Mr. James Munyagwa, Chairperson of the Council of Laity, regarding the prevalence of polygamy, which has impacted family stability and hindered the rate of holy matrimony in the area.
The bishop also highlighted the urgent need for parents to invest in their children’s education, particularly in practical skills that align with the current job market in Uganda. He emphasized that agricultural ventures, particularly coffee farming, could provide families with a sustainable income to support their children’s educational needs.
Regarding the issue of low education levels, Fort Portal’s local ordinary encouraged the community to take advantage of government school facilities to ensure their children receive a quality education. He underscored the importance of abstinence among youth and fidelity among married couples to combat the spread of HIV, advising young people to focus on their futures rather than excessive socializing.
He used the opportunity to give an update about the cathedral renovation, praising the generosity of the parish priest Fr Ndayambaje and parishioners. He stated that the project is expected to be completed by November.
The area legislator Paul Asaba pledged his full support to enhance educational standards, particularly for the upcoming fundraising initiative aimed at improving Hapuuyo Seed School’s boarding facilities, which would help reduce the long commute for students. He recognized the commitment of some parents in building the school, urging political leaders to take notice of these efforts and add their support.
