At least 84% people living with HIV in Kabarole have reportedly run away from taking their daily anti-retro-viral drugs.
According to, the district health educator [DHE] Kabarole, Catherine Kemigabo, reports indicate that a total of 236 have stopped from taking their medication thus leading to the death of 19 patients.

Patients rely on false prophets
Catherine, partly attributed the problem to a section of false prophets, who deceive patients that God will heal them, increasing to the number of the dead.
This according has made them fail to implement the 95% target of all people living with HIV to know their HIV status, 95% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection to receive sustained Anti retro-viral therapy, and 95% of all people receiving Anti retro-viral therapy to have viral suppression by 2030.
Regional statistics
According to the HIV statistics of 2020 by the Uganda HIV Impact Assessment Survey, Kabarole and Fort Portal stands at 14% HIV prevalence, regional 5.7% compared to 5.5.
She explains that girls between the age of 19-24, are living with HIV, and children between the age of 10-19 are also infected with the virus.
The same report also indicates that men between 20-49 years are HIV positive attributing it to peer pressure and poverty.
On 1st of December 2022 Uganda will be joining the rest of the world to commemorate the world AIDS day. In Kabarole, it will be commemorated in Kyaitamba primary school in Kijura town council.
