Residents in Fort Portal City and Kabarole district led by activist David Musinguzi, have yesterday morning stormed Kabarole district council, demonstrating the delay of Kabarole district Agro-Industrial Park which prompted speaker Timothy Ruhweza to adjourn for over 30 minutes.
Activist Musinguzi, is questioning the authorities to explain why industrial parks of other regions are operating but the one of Tooro has stalled.
Henry Kyomuhendo, also known as Atom, observed that the delay of the industrial Park is the reason as to why unemployment is rampant and escalating in the region.
Kyomuhendo adds that government has taken this for granted given the capacity and support received from this region.
Amanyire John Kasweta a councilor representing Hakibaale Sub County, says the demonstration is necessary since the implementation of the industrial park is long overdue.
He says this region has supported the NRM and president Museveni’s government for a long time only to come up with disappointments.
About the Industrial Park
The agro-industrial park, was intended to be implemented under the agri-led programme for the Rwenzori sub-region.
The initiative as approved by the cabinet in 2019, aims at transforming local governments to eradicate poverty and ensure sustainable wealth creation by paying attention to the needs of individual districts.
The park, seeks to enhance private sector growth and development through enterprise development and attracting local and foreign investors to the region.
The project ,is further expected to widen the revenue base for local governments, strengthen capacities in terms of infrastructure and human resources, leverage the existing expertise and technology to develop Agro-industries and promote cross border trade.
