Leaders in Kabarole district are worried over the high malaria positive reports at their health facilities.
Current statistics indicate that malaria positivity rate for the district, year 2021/2022 stands at 33.3% ; a figure that is alarming compared to the national target of 7%.
In her presentation during the district HIV/AIDS/TB quarterly performance review April-June 2022 at Fort Breeze hotel in Fort Portal city , the district biostatistician madam Monica Matama, ranked Kabarole among the districts in the country with high malaria prevalence rate that is affecting the lives of many and productivity.
The meeting, attracted Baylor the implementing partner; health in charges from both government aided and private; religious leaders and district planning team and it was observed that most people have the mosquito nets but they don’t utilize them.
Tom Mugisha, the Malaria and HIV district Focal Person advised the health centers to give the mosquito nets to pregnant women who come for first antenatal care to prevent malaria attack adding that they sampled Mugusu health center; Kijura; Kaswa; Ruteete and Kicwamba and findings indicated the nets were not distributed to mothers.
Prevention measures
In order to contain the high malaria prevalence rate ; the meeting resolved to intensify on sensitization of the public about the dangers of malaria and proper utilization of mosquito nets; integration of malaria in all activities; health in charges to support community awareness and record Keeping.
