The Kabarole District Production Team, in collaboration with selected beekeepers, has embarked on a series of farmers’ exchange visits to modern, established farming, beekeeping, fish farming, and processing projects.
According to Dr. Dean Kusiimakwe, the District Veterinary Officer and Focal Person for the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Project, the primary goal of these visits is to benchmark effective climate-smart strategies that can enhance productivity.
During the visits, the team explored innovative projects, including, the Kabarole Bee Keepers Association, which processes honey into various products, BIGLAD Agri Tourism Farm in Kanyambeho, Kiko Town Council, and the Bunyangabu Bee Keepers Cooperative Association.
The participants were impressed by the success stories of these farmers, who are not only generating substantial income but also promoting ecosystem conservation and agri-tourism. The visits left a lasting impact on the participants, who returned with newfound knowledge and enthusiasm.
The farmers and officials alike have pledged to mobilize other farmers in the district, sharing the lessons learned and best practices observed during the exchange visits.
Clouds Filbert an Entomologist says this initiative is expected to boost the implementation of the climate-smart agricultural project in Kabarole District, ultimately enhancing productivity and resilience among local farmers. He has asked the farmers to embrace beekeeping for commercial purposes
